Another good lead and 2 points wasted I hear you all say? Wel, actually yes. You are all correct! This was a game the Hammers were not looking forward to as we were showing a bit of form and they were struggling in 19th without a home win. Despite a plucky start for West Ham, our boys took the lead with a bit of good fortune and some inspired intelligence from van the man. 6th goal of the season, thank you very much. Then with 10 minutes to the end of the half a beautifully floated corner from the great Dutchman was met with a thunderous header by big Will Gallas which buried itself in the back of the net almost concussing poor old Parker. 4th goal of the season for Gallas. He is definitely enjoying this season.
Most of the second half, it still looked like we had it in the bag until Zola introduced his little sparkler. This some how gave the Hammers a bit of a lift specially after Diamanti decided to try out his new orange shooting boots. Then in the last 15 minutes, a well taken free kick and Vito was undone. He did well to palm it away, and it could have dropped anywhere but straight on to Cole's head. I don't believe it! 1 - 2 and we are looking nervous. Suddenly a silly challenge in the box from Song on Cole and the Ref gives a Penalty. Oh, what are we doing? Nice try by our GK to put the spot kick taker off but instead the Orange booted Italian drilled in to the bottom corner. 2 - 2 and the nausea starts to kick in. But hang on, we have now "got the bit between our teeth". Chances missed. Tackles are flying in, West Ham down to ten men. Bendtner on. Eduardo on. Robin is going to score the winner!........ he misses. Final whistle and two points lost.
Our best player on the day was Robin van Persie. Also, Gallas was massive. The rest were good but Mannone had a game to forget. Will we see him in goal again this season? who knows. |
